They got their "jumping the shark" moment.

Even the most beloved and successful shows can stumble along the way. Here are 5 popular TV show turning points that turned masterpieces into disappointments.

1. The Office ( 2005 — 2013)
Turning Point: Andy as Regional Manager

For us, Office never really got bad, but after Steve Carell's departure, it just didn't feel the same. The beloved characters started acting weird, and some of the storylines, including Jim and Pam's relationship problems, felt far-fetched.

But the real downfall was giving Andy a spot as the regional manager of Scranton's Brunch. He was great at first, but then the showrunners completely ruined his character and made the audience hate him.

2. The Vampire Diaries ( 2009 — 2017)
Turning Point: The Originals Departure

You might say that the popular vampire show went downhill right after Nina Dobrev's departure, but we would say that it happened the season before. After the showrunners decided to dash all the hopes of the Klaroline fandom and write Klaus and his Originals family out of the series in the middle of Season 5 and send them off to their own show — that's when The Vampire Diaries really started to feel odd.

3. Game Of Thrones ( 2011 — 2019)
Turning Point: The Entire Eighth Season

Game of Thrones' final season was a letdown for many fans, who felt it failed to live up to the show's earlier seasons. The controversial deaths of beloved characters and rushed storylines left fans so disappointed that they started a petition calling for the finale to be completely re-shot. That’s how traumatic the experience was.

4. How to Get Away With Murder (2014 — 2020)
Turning Point: Wes and Laurel’s Relationship

The first two seasons of the show were far more than just a masterpiece. From the cast to the show's amazing storyline and incredible plot twists, the drama series had all the potential to be perfect from start to finish. However, the show lost its flair as soon as Wes and Laurel started dating out of nowhere, which led to Wes' death and Laurel going off the rails.

5. Supernatural ( 2005 — 2020)
Turning Point: Everything After Season 5

Don't get us wrong. It is still one of our all-time favorite TV shows, but even the most die-hard fans of the adventures of Dean and Sam Winchester have to open their eyes. The show felt like it was running out of ideas with the constant cycle of killing off and resurrecting characters and introducing more and more bizarre monsters. Perhaps, as originally planned, the show should have ended with the fifth season.
