Hardcore fans (as they call themselves) are convinced that whatever happened in Supernatural after season 5 isn't canon and therefore is complete garbage. Well, we beg to differ!

Any show that lasts long enough is doomed to have a few questionable storylines and bad episodes. Supernatural is no exception. Any 15-season-long series is bound to turn sour at some point, right?

These "true" fans believe that everything was only good when Eric Kripke was in charge. He was the showrunner for the first five seasons and saw the main storyline through to its conclusion, that's true.

However, what some fans tend to forget is that he stayed on as an executive producer for season 6 and as an executive consultant until the very end. That's settled.

Sure, season 6 brought uncertainty to the Supernatural universe, and you can just feel the creators going, "What's next?" Why does that have to be a bad thing?

Post-season 5 Supernatural survived and thrived for another ten years. If it was as bad as some claim it to be, would it have stayed on the air for so long? We doubt it.

Starting from season 6, we learn a lot more about Purgatory, Heaven, and Hell. We meet some of the most entertaining villains like the Leviathans and find out more about some other characters like Chuck.

Sorry, but the storyline with Chuck being God (and a total trash being) is still the best plot twist in the entire show.

Charlie comes along in season 7, Rowena graces our screens in season 10, and Jack makes us fall in love with him in season 12.

They are all awesome characters that were introduced after season 5, and not knowing their stories is a crime (and they are not the only ones).

If it makes it easier for you, you can try to think of different showrunner eras as separate shows with the same characters (like spinoffs of the "original" series). Better?

With a plot hole here and a dumb move there, Supernatural is still compelling to watch, so the choice is yours. You can either cling to the past and be a stick-in-the-mud purist, or you can enjoy the show you love from a different angle.
