Leonard and Penny's Scene Got Awkward When Audience Member Said 'Ew'
Being filmed in front of a live audience has its advantages. Sometimes, though, this comes with disadvantages too as you never know how a scene is going to go down.
Perhaps one of the funniest audience reaction moments of The Big Bang Theory was when a member of the audience said "ew" during a scene between Leonard and Penny. Let's see what this was all about.
A change in roommates
Season 10 Episode 4 of The Big Bang Theory sees Amy's (Mayim Bialik) apartment flood. As a result, she needs to move out for several weeks. After a suggestion from Penny (Kaley Cuoco ), Amy and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) end up staying alone in apartment 4A with Amy and Sheldon staying together in 4B.
So, for the first time, the Hofstadters can live alone as a married couple. Of course, Sheldon only accepts the new arrangements as a scientific experiment to judge his and Amy's compatibility, however.
The first night alone
When Penny and Leonard are finally alone in the apartment (and Sheldon's bedtime has passed), Leonard comes up with an idea of something the pair can do that they couldn't do with Sheldon around: wear underwear and dance to loud music.

So, à la Pulp Fiction, Leonard plays Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell," before Penny finally joins him for 69 Boyz' "Tootsee Roll."
An unexpected audience reaction
As funny as the scene is, one member of the audience didn't react too kindly to Leonard when he said: "So we are going to put on music and dance in our underwear."
The camera shows Penny's reaction to Leonard's suggestion before she loses composure and says, "I'm sorry but she said ew!" and laughed. In mock shock, Galecki points at the audience member and Cuoco joins in as they jokingly say "out!".
As you might expect, this scene was kept just for the bloopers but unsurprisingly, it's been viewed many times by fans on YouTube.
Fans that saw the actual scene on TBBT clearly had different opinions with most people loving the underwear dancing antics and praising the actors for the moment. One fan even noticed that his underwear was the same pair from Season 1 Episode 1 – that's a good memory there!
With all the many memorable scenes The Big Bang Theory brought us, this is perhaps one of the most heart-warming. It's hilarious and shows just how much the writers know what the audience will like, even if one person did find it a bit of a turn-off.
