You may still recognize the alleged newcomer’s face when she’s back to screen.

Major changes are in order for the cast of NBC’s long-running police procedural drama Law & Order in the upcoming season 24.

The show has just added a new regular and removed two other mainstay actors completely reshaping the way of how things will go further at the NYPD.

While two major characters will no longer be there for Law & Order’s next installment, the newcomer in fact isn’t completely new to the show — and some die-hard fans may already know why.

According to recent reports, Maura Tierney has officially joined the main cast of Law & Order with a recurring role as a new lieutenant. Ironically, this won’t mark the first time for the actress’ appearance on the show since back in 1991 she already showed up there as Patricia 'Patti' Blaine in the episode titled Aria.

However, all of this is now a matter old enough for most fans to consider that important, and Tierney’s new role does sound pretty promising considering that her last appearance in one of the network’s shows was featured in the 2012 political drama series The Good Wife.

The news of Tierney’s cast for Law & Order’s upcoming new season is accompanied by a much sadder announcement of Camryn Manheim and Sam Waterston’s exits from the series.

The former has spent around 2 years portraying Lt. Kate Dixon and showing up for the last time in season 23 finale, while the latter came around back in 1994 as Jack McCoy and eventually garnered a total of 400 episodes before quitting the show.

Law & Order will be back to NBC with its season 24 on October 3.
