Dick Wolf didn't need much time to make a decision.

Just as the promising discussions about the Law & Order: Criminal Intent revivals started circulating on social media, and every single one of the crew and cast spoke out about how they would love to make it happen, we have another update!

Criminal Intent is getting a second wind, but not in the form most expected.

As a spin-off of the mother franchise Law & Order, Criminal Intent, which ended in 2011, will now get its own spin-off.

You can expect the same team dynamics, the same style of criminal cases, and the same level of tension you're used to from the original series. The twist is: everything will be set in Toronto, Canada.

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent will find its home on Citytv. The spinoff will consist of 10 episodes, each about an hour long.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will premiere in the spring of 2024, with production starting this fall, though it's not clear if the series will be affected by the writers' strike.

However happy Canadian fans of an evergreen Law & Order universe may be, that doesn't change the nostalgic need of fans of the original series to see stars Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe reunited on screen for at least a few episodes.

Whether or not this new spinoff and the apparent interest in it will help greenlight the reunion or, on the contrary, help make the decision to put it on the back burner for a good while, we don't know.

However, the development of new spin-offs and the growth of the universe looks promising enough for longtime viewers to stick around.

If you are feeling nostalgic and want to give a rewatch to the original Law & Order: Criminal Intent series, you can stream the show on Peacock.

Keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates from the Dick Wolf universe so you don't miss any exciting renewals or unexpected comebacks!
