Latest Yellowstone Update Changes Everything About McConaughey's Spin-Off
The Yellowstone spin-off story gets more complicated as an insider reveals details.
Summary:
- After the upcoming finale of Yellowstone, the show’s legacy will continue with a new spin-off led by Matthew McCounaghey.
- According to a recent update from an insider, the spin-off will be set in Northern California instead of Montana.
- While a radical change, such a move would allow Taylor Sheridan to start a new branch of his neo-Western universe.
As the OG Yellowstone inevitably marches to its conclusion amid the scandals and troubles surrounding its finale, Taylor Sheridan intends to raise another TV show from its ashes: a new Yellowstone spin-off starring Matthew McCounaghey. The star is yet to sign the contract, but it seems like more of a formality at this point, especially since he’s already having famous co-lead’s sent his way.
But the latest update from an industry insider turned everything we thought we knew about the much-anticipated spin-off upside down.
McCounaghey’s Yellowstone Spin-Off Will Be Different
Seeing that several actors from the original cast are already in negotiations about joining the McConaughey-led spin-off, we assumed that its action would take place in the same general area soon after the finale of Yellowstone. Apparently, at least one of these guesses was wrong, and the series will take us to a very different place.
“Let me add some additional info: [the Yellowstone spin-off follows] a different family in [a different] state. The spinoff will be set in Northern California,” a famous industry insider MyTimeToShineHello recently shared on their X (formerly Twitter) account.
If this information is correct, it appears that Sheridan intends to finally leave the Dutton Ranch behind and take the action across half the country. Why would he, though?
Why Would Yellowstone Leave Its Iconic Location?
The insider’s update really gets you thinking: is it really Yellowstone if it’s set nowhere near, well, Yellowstone? Is it still Yellowstone if the Dutton Ranch is an airplane trip away? And most importantly, why raise all these questions by taking the action so far from the original — and iconic! — location in the first place?
Our best guess so far is that Taylor Sheridan intends to split the characters who’ll survive the original show’s final showdown into several groups and send them to different places. Since Kayce, Beth, and Rip are supposedly appearing in the McConaughey-led spin-off, they’re likely going east to Northern California.
Potentially, Matthew McCounaghey will lead the new chapter in Sheridan’s neo-Western universe, set far away to shake things up a bit, while the 6666 and other Yellowstone-based spin-offs will stay around the same general area. But that’s just our guess as we know no more than you now do. What are your thoughts?
