Kristen Stewart's 2024 Take on Twilight Is Definitely Not What You Expect
And who are we to argue?
Summary:
- Kristen Stewart is an American actress who gained worldwide recognition for her performance as Bella Swan in Twilight.
- After the release of the franchise, the actress has made a public announcement, coming out as gay.
- In a cover story for Variety, Stewart revealed that she also sees Twilight as a gay movie.
No matter how much time has passed since the first Twilight movie premiered, the Internet will always be there to celebrate it.
Even though there are still a few haters out there who despise everything associated with the brilliant adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's human/vampire love story, the majority of people can at least acknowledge its success and the impact it had on an entire generation of people.
Even the actors, who clearly weren't on board with everything that was going on with the fans, now come out with nothing but a nostalgic look back and words of praise for the film. Their perspective on it has changed, however, just as their views on everything else have evolved since then.
Kristen Stewart Speaks About Twilight In 2024
While Robert Pattinson, who portrayed Edward Cullen in the movie and never missed an opportunity to show his attitude towards the story he was a part of, now admits that half of his hatred was rooted in the disturbing tendencies of the fandom, his co-star Kristen Stewart ups the ante.
According to the actress, looking at the Twilight movies from a different angle can change your entire perspective. Stewart shared her current thoughts on the franchise with Variety:
“I don’t think it necessarily started off that way, but I also think that the fact that I was there at all, it was percolating. It’s such a gay movie. <...> I mean, a Mormon woman wrote this book. It’s all about oppression, about wanting what’s going to destroy you. That’s a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love,” the actress said.
It’s safe to say with Twilight being so popular for so many reasons, the fans are more than happy for that interpretation to exist. After all, many of those who spent their teenage years fighting for Team Jacob or Team Edward found themselves more of Team Bella, so Stewart’s own example and her proud position only supported the fans.
Whether you believe that Twilight has very hidden gay undertones, or are still inclined to think of it as your usual heterosexual supernatural romance, as long as you bear a certain level of respect and appreciation for it, you are welcome to rewatch it.
All five films of the vampire romantic franchise are available to purchase on Amazon Prime.
