Kathryn Bigelow Set To Return with Netflix Thriller 'Aurora'
It’s been half a decade since we last heard of Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win a best directing Oscar (2008’s ‘The Hurt Locker’), who is famous for her tough action movies such as 1991’s classical ‘Point Break’.
Now she is planning to team with David Koepp, a screenwriter who often works with Spielberg (‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, ‘War of the Worlds’) to adapt for Netflix his new thriller ‘Aurora’ that is set to hit bookstores in June.
The novel is telling the story of Aubrey Wheeler who’s just trying to move on after divorce, when the apocalypse happens. A solar storm has knocked out power almost everywhere. Aubrey decides to find a shelter with her eccentric older brother, Silicon Valley CEO, who’s hiding in the desert bunker he built for maximum comfort and security.
Stephen King, as usual, has already read the book before everyone else and thinks that it is “a fantastic story, a real page-turner impossible to put down". Judging by the reported budget of around $100 million, it looks like Koepp is once again back to large scale projects and Bigelow has everything to make ‘Aurora’ adaptation entertaining.
