Just How Big Was the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Budget?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally hit theaters last week, and so far, it is doing well at the box office – so well, in fact, that its massive budget is no concern for Marvel!
The highly anticipated third installment of one of the MCU 's most beloved sagas has just premiered, and it is on its way to commercial success.
The opening weekend alone has proven that – the movie has made over $118 million worldwide!
As of today, it has almost tripled that number, grossing an impressive $318.7 million in just five days in the theaters, mind you. However, what we are really interested in is if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is worth it.
Everyone wanted to know how much Marvel had spent on the movie, and the company delivered!
Expectations are running high for James Gunn 's threequel as it cost $250 million to produce it and another $100 million to promote it (via Variety). Wow indeed!
The movie is off to a great start, but it would need to earn $600 million to $800 million just to break even. Seems like a hefty sum, doesn't it?
It's not that unattainable. The first movie in the franchise managed to make $773.3 million, and the second one took home $863.8 million worldwide (though they both had smaller budgets than the third installment).
The threequel doesn't have much to worry about as the critical response has been pretty positive so far. It has even received an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a good sign.
Let's wait and see how the movie does on its second weekend, which will be the determining factor for its commercial success.
By the way, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is our last chance to see Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Dave Bautista as Drax as both stars have grown tired of their respective roles and want to move on to other projects.
We'll miss them dearly if there is ever a fourth movie!
