Just Add Cream? Crazy Thing Disney's H2O Actresses Did to Keep Eyes Open Underwater
No ordinary girl would be able to do something like this.
Filming a Disney fantasy show like H2O: Just Add Water must be fun, right? Getting to experience a life of a mermaid on set, wearing beautiful costumes and living the dream of every 00's young teenage girl.
However, it was not all that easy for Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin, and Cariba Heine, who had to go through a lot of tough filming days to get the end result to look good on screen.
There is one trick in particular that stood out to the public and shocked many viewers when it came out in one of the interviews.
Back in 2006, for an interview with The Courier Mail Claire Holt, who portrayed one of three mermaid friends Emma, admitted how they were able to film so much with their eyes open underwater.
The secret is both simple and mindblowing for anyone not familiar with any sort of water sports: just a few drops of full cream milk in the eyes.
"The chlorine starts to sting when you have to keep your eyes open underwater for a while and we tried a lot of things, but the milk in our eyes worked a treat.
It was a trick I used in water polo but I never thought of it for H2O, and the nurse was researching on the internet and she suggested we try a few drops of milk," Holt said, explaining how the idea first came around.
It seemed to work like magic, as actresses delivered their scenes perfectly for three seasons straight, 26 episodes in each of them.
Despite all the hardships that might've been happening on the set, thanks to the producing team and the actors' great performance, young Disney fans all over the world got to see a beautiful fairy tale become reality on their screens.
If you're feeling nostalgic and want to give H2O: Just Add Water a re-watch, you can stream it on either Amazon Prime or Netflix.
