Joseph Mawle Sets the Record Straight on His Recasting in Rings of Power
Last week, The Rings of Power fans were heartbroken to know that the Adar actor will not return in season 2.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is months away, but the are already some changes in the cast, with six new actors being added to the line-up, and Sam Hazeldine replacing Joseph Mawle's Adar.
The news received a mixed reaction from fans, who were simultaneously willing to welcome Hazeldine into the "fellowship" of the Amazon series, but were also tremendously upset with Mawle exiting The Rings of Power.
Some people even feared that there was some sort of bad blood between Mawle and the rest of The Rings of Power crew. However, the actor himself was quick to clear things up and address being recast.
"I loved my time exploring Middle-earth and diving into Tolkien's mythology. I'm so honored that the character was liked. He cared deeply about telling you his story," Mawle tweeted, adding that his job as an actor is "explor[ing] new characters and worlds."
He also assured the rest of the cast that he would be "cheering [them] on from the sidelines". However, Mawle's exist remains a mystery to many fans, as neither Amazon nor the actor himself have clarified the reasons behind recasting Adar. While some fans have suggested that the decision was made due to some sort of scheduling issues, others expressed concern that the show will only be degrading from this point now that it has booted one of the most compelling actors from the cast.
Adar has been praised by The Rings of Power fans as one of the best characters in the show, even though he was specifically created for the show and not adapted from the book canon. Fans applauded Mawle's Adar, noting that he "helped us see the dark in Galadriel, and the light in an Uruk."
The Rings of Power season 2 is already filming, but the premiere date remains to be scheduled by Amazon.
