Is there such a thing as "too big of a salary for Johnny Depp"? Apparently, the actor himself thinks so — and he even claims that he's already been overpaid in the past.

There are hundreds if not thousands of popular and well-established actors in each generation, but there are only a few that define it.

Johnny Depp is absolutely one such actor as his unique and nuanced performances saw him take on dozens of widely-ranged and difficult roles in the past three decades.

Considering the overwhelming critical and commercial success of Johnny Depp's movies, it should come as no surprise that the actor's compensation is through the roof.

Johnny is one of the top earners in the industry, and he deserved it; but apparently, Depp himself doesn't think some of his insane salaries were justified.

While Johnny Depp's a Grandmaster when it comes to crazy and lunatic characters, the one role that really cemented his position in Hollywood was that of a pirate — granted, the pirate was pretty out of his mind, too.

In Depp's career, Captain Jack Sparrow is the same as Ethan Hunt is in Tom Cruise's if you will.

Pirates of the Caribbean became tremendously popular overnight which came as a massive shocker for everyone involved.

Since the first movie's global success, there have been four more films, and Johnny Depp's salary kept growing with each consequent installment to the point where even Depp thought it unjustified.

And we can kind of see it, too: over the course of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Johnny Depp's total paycheck added up to a whopping $650M!

The actor even calls himself out on making way more money off this franchise than he should be.

"Basically, if they're going to pay me the stupid money right now, I'm going to take it. I have to. I mean, it's not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it's for my kids. It's ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It's for the kids," Johnny Depp explained in one of his Pirates-related interviews.

Caring about one's kids is always a noble motivation that justifies many questionable things.

We can only wish for Johnny to stay strong and keep receiving those disgusting hundred-thousand-dollar paychecks for the greater good no matter what…

Especially since he's finally back in the game, to everyone's delight!
