John Wick Director Claims He and Keanu Reeves Are Ready for the Fifth Movie
Chad Stahelski shared that while both he and Reeves are more than excited to make another John Wick movie, there’s one thing they need to figure out, first of all.
Keanu Reeves is the Internet’s sweetheart, a great man, and a phenomenal actor. But apart from being a wholesome man and acting professional we all love, he’s also an outstanding action performer with numerous successful franchises to showcase his brilliance when it comes to action sequences others wouldn’t have dared to do.
But despite the huge and impressive track record the actor has, it’s his most recent franchise, John Wick, that really allowed Keanu Reeves to shine. Together with the aspiring director Chad Stahelski, Reeves redefined the entire action genre and showed everyone, everywhere, all at once how to make real action movies today.
The audience and critics alike have been in love with the John Wick franchise since the first installment — and there are four of them to this date, each setting the bar higher than before. Not too long ago, people were convinced that the fourth movie would be the last, but this was far from the truth: no one drops a $1B franchise.
Despite the fact that John Wick, the titular protagonist of the movies, died in the finale of the previous movie, Lionsgate assured everyone that the fifth installment is already in development. At first, director Stahelksi seemed quite frustrated with that; now, however, he’s more open to the idea, and he claims that Keanu Reeves is, too.
“Yeah, Keanu and I have talked. Keanu, if you ask him right now, ‘Would you do John Wick 5?’ He’d be, ‘F*ck yeah.’ But then he’d look and go, ‘Well, what is it? I have no f*cking idea.’ <...> If I was driving in the car or if I was walking the dog and an idea hit me, within 30 seconds I’d be on the phone to Keanu and we’d be riffing,” the director explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
So apparently, the fifth John Wick installment is yet to receive an actual script, and neither Stahelski nor Reeves is sure where to take the franchise next. But since Lionsgate and the people want this movie, it will definitely be made — and the most important thing is that both the director and the lead star are very much on board.
