It's been almost 12 years since Jack Gleeson made his debut on Game of Thrones as the villainous King Joffrey. Now, as the actor has taken a break from his acting career, he looks almost unrecognizable.

Back in 2011, Jack Gleeson was thrust into the spotlight as Joffrey Baratheon in HBO's smash hit fantasy epic, Game of Thrones. His performance was so brilliant that for a long time his character became one of the most hated fictional personalities.

However, after Gleeson's tenure as cruel King Joffrey spectacularly came to an end in 2014, the actor didn't ride a wave of new-found fame and jump on other projects. He instead decided to take some time off.

The actor, who is now 30, revealed back then that he wanted to take a break from Hollywood to focus on his mental health and education. As a result, Jack Gleeson spent six years away from acting. He enrolled in Trinity College in Dublin, where he studied philosophy and theology. He also started a theatre company called Collapsing Horse Productions which came to an end in 2019.

Finally, in 2020, after a six-year hiatus, Gleeson starred in the play To Be a Machine based on Mark O'Connell's book on transhumanism, the belief that technology can help us transcend all bodily and mental limitations. The actor also returned to television in Sara Pascoe's series Out of Her Mind, playing the ghost of Pascoe's abortion.

Now, that the actor has returned to the screens, he has adopted a very different look from the one Game of Thrones fans got used to. In fact, many fans would be hard-pressed to recognize him today. He is sporting dark long hair and a mustache. This look can be seen in all his recent photos including the wedding images.

Yes, the actor who was a cast member of Game of Thrones had the courage to not only show up at a wedding but actually have one. Jokes aside, in August last year, Gleeson and his girlfriend Róisin O'Mahony, fellow actress and comedian, had a beautiful small ceremony at The Sacred Heart Church in County Kerry, Ireland. In the photos published and since then deleted by the Parrish priest Patsy Lynch on his Twitter (via Page Six), the couple seems very happy, and Jack Gleeson looks nothing like the tyrant viewers once hated while watching Game of Thrones.
