Joe Mantegna Hints at Сriminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Coming
The actor behind Agent David Rossi is sure Criminal Minds has millions of stories to tell.
Criminal Minds: Evolution revived the CBS procedural that ran for 15 years and 324 episodes and ended in February 2020.
During its run, the crime show garnered a huge fanbase that was obsessed with the stories about the twisted minds of serial killers and the heroes who are ready to chase bad guys at the cost of their inner peace. Evolution made some changes in the beloved show driven to a large extent by the transition to the Paramount+ streaming service.
Initially, Criminal Minds returned for one season consisting of 10 episodes. But as the season is being released episode after episode, viewers start wondering if they get more.
Is Criminal Minds: Evolution Gearing Up to Introduce Jeid by Killing Off Will?
While no official announcements have been made yet, Joe Mantegna playing the now-dismissed BAU unit chief David Rossi hinted in an interview with E! News that Season 2 of Evolution is very possible. Mantegna, who directed 10 episodes of Criminal Minds including one in the new season, stressed that CBS's Criminal Minds didn't end because the creators ran out of ideas.
"We did 325 of the other version of it. We didn't stop because we said, 'OK, we're done. We ran out of stories,'" the actor said.
The show has been working with FBI advisors since the very beginning, and those specialists can confirm the number of stories based on the psychology of unsub behavior is endless.
"There's millions of stories. We haven't even scratched the surface in terms of the kinds of stories that are out there," the actor added.
These words don't necessarily mean that Season 2 of Evolution is coming. According to Mantegna, having lots of interesting stories to tell is not the only thing that influences such decisions. Viewership and happy dedicated fans are also important. Mantegna is sure the satisfaction of long-term fans and the attraction of new viewers is what Evolution is all about. And to create this special vibe that the loyal fanbase will definitely enjoy, the writers added "a little something" reminding of the original show to each episode of the new season, the actor revealed.
"[There's] one [addition] in particular that I think is going to be massive," Mantegna teased.
Looks like, besides the conclusion of a season-long arc, loyal fans have some huge Easter Egg to look forward to.
