Let’s just say Sheldon didn’t come back right away.

Summary:

  • After 12 years of almost daily filming on The Big Bang Theory, you would think that Sheldon Cooper would stay with Jim Parsons forever.
  • A character with quirks and mannerisms as distinctive as Sheldon's is hard to forget.
  • However, it took Jim Parsons more than a minute to channel his iconic character back on set when he appeared in Young Sheldon 's finale.

As The Big Bang Theory's prequel, Young Sheldon, heads toward its grand finale, many people expected the season to be full of exciting cameos and easter eggs. In some ways, the production team has delivered what fans wanted, bringing back characters like Tam and Bobby, but also inviting someone very special to make a cameo.

Now that Jim Parson's return to our screens as Sheldon Cooper is official, people can't stop theorizing about why the whole Young Sheldon story was told in the first place. Was it a podcast or an interview he did? Or was it a recording of his own autobiography? We're closer than ever to solving this mystery.

One thing is for sure: whatever the reason for the grown-up Sheldon's reappearance, viewers are taking it as a great gift. Jim Parsons, on the other hand, seemed to have more trouble with one assignment than he anticipated.

The grand finale of season 7 of Young Sheldon is set to premiere on CBS in two months, on May 16. As fans of the show now know, the finale will have a special nod to the original The Big Bang Theory show that started the whole journey, reintroducing grown-up versions of Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler.

For both Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, who played these characters back in the day, the comeback was both pleasant and nostalgic, and unexpectedly hard to get into. The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, and while Parsons has continued to work on narrating Young Sheldon, it's not quite the same as fully embodying the character.

Speaking to ET, the actor opened up about the struggle he and his co-star went through:

“Mayim [Bialik] nailed it when she walked back and said, 'Uh, I thought I'd feel a lot more confident than this.' I said, 'Me, too’.I really thought it'd be like putting on a pair of old shoes and then eventually it was, but not for about an hour or so. And I was like, 'Do I still know how to talk like this?' It was weird,” he admitted.

Luckily, at this point, The Big Bang Theory fans are so excited to get any crumbs from their favorite characters that there's no chance they won't enjoy the cameo. Whatever Sheldon and Amy are up to in the future, we're sure it'll be just as funny and brilliant as we've come to expect from The Big Bang Theory.

If you are interested in seeing how Young Sheldon will wrap up the complex stories of each member of the Cooper family, you can go ahead and tune in to Young Sheldon season 7 every Thursday on CBS to not miss another episode.
