Jim Carrey’s Dumb Comedy Sequel With 30% Tomatometer Suddenly Entered Netflix’s US Top
Ironically enough, the actor’s big comedy movie has never been that successful.
Summary:
- Netflix brings in yet another unexpected challenger to its American top giving a second life to Jim Carrey ’s 2014 comedy sequel that was a big flop back in the day.
- So far holding the sixth spot in the chart, the movie follows the 1994 original film’s duo that now has to embark on another cross-country adventure to find one of the characters’ daughter.
- Despite all the expectations, the sequel never got to repeat the success of the original movie, though it still became a big box office deal.
Netflix’s viewers keep proving their unpredictability as the streaming has more and more old failed flicks coming in the top 10 chart. Some positions have been quite a surprise, but this time the viewers are glued to the screen by giving more views to Jim Carrey’s 2014 big flop that was crushed by the critics back then.
According to FlixPatrol data, the movie somehow got it to Netflix’s top 10 in the US, to-date landing the sixth position. Dumb and Dumber To, starring Carrey and Jeff Daniels, came as a sequel to the 1994 buddy comedy Dumb and Dumber.
The original film follows two dumb, yet good-natured friends, Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, portrayed by Carrey and Daniels respectively, who embark on a cross-country trip from Rhode Island to Colorado in an attempt to return a suitcase full of money to its owner, though they have no clue that the suitcase had ransom money and was left there on purpose.
The sequel follows pretty much the same story, though with some big changes in mind that happened during those 20 years between the films.
Carrey and Daniels reprise their roles of dimwits who now have to find Harry’s long-lost daughter and once again plan a whole cross-country trip, but this time something goes very wrong and the characters end up at a summit of the world’s best scientific minds.
Though the sequel was quite a success in the box office garnering around $170 million against the initial budget of $50 million, it still never managed to become a critics’ darling, at least of the same level that the first movie received.
So far, Dumb and Dumber To holds very average scores of 30% and 35% from critics and the audience respectively, while the original film received a much warmer welcome, landing scores of 68% and 84%.
Despite the fact that the original film hasn’t made its way to Netflix yet, the streaming’s viewers don’t really seem to mind, as they keep streaming the sequel alone.
