Jessica Knight’s Big Drama May Continue a Weirdly Good Trend Started 8 Years Ago
At least her story is meant to conclude in the best way possible.
NCIS ’ season 21 came to its end several weeks ago leaving most of its fans wonder whether it’s indeed time to call it a day for Jessica Knight’s position at the MCRT and in the show as a whole, and NCIS showrunner’s recent revelations prove that there’s a solid reason for gradually accepting the character’s inevitable exit.
However, even with NCIS lovers’ biggest fear becoming true in the next installment, Jessica Knight’s storyline doesn’t seem to be just brutally abandoned as it has all chances to follow other major characters’ suit.
In one of his recent interviews that followed NCIS’ season 21 finale, the series’ showrunner Steven D. Binder revealed that, until the next season arrives and puts all the cards on the table, fans won’t be able to decipher Jessica Knight’s future path in the show.
Reflecting on the character’s possible departure from NCIS, Binder made a suspicious comparison putting Jessica Knight next to Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo who also left the show before.
The showrunner then explained that the writers are currently coming up with a so-called “Tony DiNozzo departure” meaning that they consider all the ways possible for the storyline to keep going in case the character does leave the series for good.
By comparing Jessica Knight with NCIS’ major characters like Gibbs and DiNozzo, Binder thus made a huge hint at the fact that Knight’s departure may indeed be happening, and the season 21 finale’s big cliffhanger isn’t just some kind of dramatical plot twist to keep the fans hooked.
Meanwhile, Jessica Knight’s potential exit from the show has in fact been carefully prepared long before the season’s final episode as the entire season 21 featured the character’s probably best moments ever since she first appeared in NCIS.
Throughout the latest season, Jessica has been the foreground of her team proving that she’s had significant development as a Special Agent that surely deserves that big promotion she accepted in one of the latest episodes.
Her relationships with Jimmy Palmer have also turned into a right direction as both characters became aware of their deep feelings for each other, and though Jessica’s departure may become a reason for their possible breakup, she still had her best time with Jimmy after she fully recognised that she cared for him a lot.
On top of that, Jessica’s confessions to FBI Agent Rose about her commitment to truth may even be considered her total approval of Rose should the latter take Knight’s position over.
However things will eventually turn out for Jessica Knight’s role in NCIS, there’s still no place for a bad closure of her arc anyway. The whole mystery will finally be unveiled when NCIS’ season 22 hits CBS this fall.
