It's no secret that a lot goes on behind the scenes of TV shows, and it's more than just drama.

The cast and crew of many popular shows have developed some iconic traditions over the years that make being on set fun and memorable.

The cast of How I Met Your Mother would all do a high-five before filming.

The cast of The Office had an ongoing tradition of competing to see who could touch the mic with a pencil during shooting and not get caught, and the cast of Game of Thrones would have a dance party following any long day on set.

Grey's Anatomy is one of the longest-running series and fans wanted to know if the cast of the award-winning show had any traditions of their own, and Jesse Williams had an answer that few could have expected.

Since Grey's Anatomy is a medical show, you would expect that there would be plenty of fake blood, gory props, and hospital supplies lying around for the cast to mess around with or play pranks on each other as some sort of cast tradition, but this is not the case.

Jesse Willaims, who played Dr. Jackson Avery for well over a decade on the show, revealed in an interview with E! Insider that Grey's Anatomy does have a secret tradition, and whilst it does not involve blood or group dances, it certainly is out of the ordinary.

"It is gross," Williams admitted.

As ironic as it is for a medical drama that has had plenty of stomach-churning, sickening moments in and out of the operating room, Williams revealed that the Grey's Anatomy cast and crew secret tradition involves food, lots of food.

Once or twice a year, the medical drama has an on-set eating competition.

Williams personally enjoys it, watching what he described as "Glamorous people in makeup, pigging out with no hands."

The actor also mentioned foods like hotdogs and banana splits being on the menu for the competition, and it seems some of the cast members take it very seriously!

An eating contest is not what fans would have guessed, but it sure is funny to imagine, and heartwarming to know that the cast and crew are close enough to engage in such a messy but hilarious tradition.

The only question left for fans is which of their favorite characters have competed in the contest, and who has won?
