The streaming’s highly anticipated epic film doesn’t seem that epic anymore.

After months of speculation and heated discussions, Netflix ’s brand new sci-fi action movie Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez is finally here, and it’s still pretty much controversial.

Despite being crushed by both critics and viewers, Atlas is having quite a good time as the film was quick to climb to the number one spot in Netflix’s top 10, according to the most recent data from FlixPatrol.

Also starring Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong, the movie follows Atlas Shepherd, a sophisticated data analyst who has trust issues regarding the newest technologies, especially when it comes to using AI.

Atlas has her own mission to capture the AI terrorist Harlan who, as his interrogated team later reveals, has escaped and is now hiding on another planet. Learning about it, Atlas embarks on a continuous search for Harlan by accompanying the military mission to find and capture the criminal. Things change drastically when the whole plan is thwarted, and now Atlas has to appeal to the help of AI to save the future of humanity.

Released globally on May 24, Atlas soon became Netflix’s most-watched movie, though still failed to receive accolades, presumably not even from the viewers who are currently giving the film a massive boost on the platform.

To-date Atlas holds a miserable score of only 17% from critics and relatively decent, yet still bad 54% from viewers. Some professionals though agreed in their praise for Jennifer Lopez’s performance that gets to be the strongest point of the whole movie, yet still doesn’t manage to save it from the script’s mediocrity.

Though the critics’ opinion is very unlikely to ever change in this case, Atlas has some chances for a better position thanks to the viewers, as it only took 3 days for the movie to fly up to the status of Netflix’s top film.

With some more time that Atlas will surely spend in the top chart, its viewership score may still get some changes.

Atlas is now available to stream on Netflix worldwide.
