Can you imagine the reaction of a 32-year-old Hollywood star when it was suggested she’d play her own teenage character’s grandmother?.. J-Law had to hear it recently.

Jennifer Lawrence truly rose to fame after starring in the hit The Hunger Games franchise as the main character, Katniss Everdeen. The first movie came out a bit more than a decade ago, and even though the actress is still young, there have been some peculiar implications about her future roles recently.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel series to The Hunger Games, has been announced not too long ago. The show will reveal the story of the person we’d later know as President Snow — the tyrant of Panem and J-Law’s Katniss Everdeen’s main enemy. Many fans would love to see Lawrence star there, but…

There’s a tiny little problem: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place 49 years before the events of The Hunger Games meaning Katniss Everdeen could not have been there even if the writers really tried to tie her into the new series’ plot. There are some hopes that there’s another way to go about it, though.

Recently, rumors of Jennifer Lawrence playing the part of Katniss’s grandmother have been circulating in the fan community. Even though this only goes to show how much the fans want J-Law to return in the prequel, others saw those comments as ageist — and the actress herself made a snarky reply to such implications.

On Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Jennifer whether the rumors about her playing Katniss Everdeen’s Grandma 49 years prior to the events of the main franchise were true, and the actress didn’t hold back her thoughts.

“Oh, ‘cause I’m forty-nine in Hollywood years, huh? No, that’s not true,” J-Law replied.

The actress’s fans were swift to back her up and called Cohen out on asking “ageist” and “stupid” questions wondering how old “all these” people thought Jen was.

Still, we can’t help but wonder: why is everyone so upset with this suggestion? It’s not like Lawrence is asked to play an old lady; she’s asked to play Katniss’s grandmother, true, but the Grandma was just as young back then as Katniss herself was at the beginning of The Hunger Games!

Jennifer would still be playing a young woman, essentially. What’s the issue?
