Jaskier's Latest Trick: Appearing In Blood Origin Without Ruining Timeline
All eyes on the December 25 release of the Witcher: Blood Origin series!
The first spinoff of the original show will follow the ancient elven kingdom some 1,200 years before the events of original series. The Conjunction of the Spheres hasn't happened and there are no monsters for the witchers to fight. Actually, there are no witchers to take on the job either.
The show will certainly have The Witcher 's lore but it is a totally different story. Some of the fans even believe that it has nothing to do with The Witcher franchise since there are no witchers and the first part of the title is just a way to capitalize on the original show's success. Still, there's one character from the original series, who made it into the prequel.
How come Jaskier found himself involved in a plot developing some 12 centuries before he first appeared on the show?
We won't see Henry Cavill 's Geralt, who's the hallmark of the franchise, so there needs to be someone who would build the bridge to The Witcher. But how can the showrunners substantiate for his presence in such a distant past?
It is the Blood Origin's trailer which gives a possible clue. Jaskier will be in the spinoff but he will be in the present-day timeline "singing the story back to life" as requested by a present-day elf, Seanchai (Minnie Driver). He won't take part in in the events of the series, and Seanchai will most likely tell the story of Blood Origin to the bard so that he can write a ballad about it and spread the word about the past times.
Actually, Joey Batey who portrays Jaskier for The Witcher franchise once explained his character's appearance in Blood Origin.
"The power of music and stories is at the heart of The Witcher: Blood Origin so it makes sense for Jaskier to be some kind of connective tissue between Blood Origin and the main show," the actor said.
Batey needed to make a break during the filming of Season 3 to be featured in the prequel. But he said that when he was asked to do so he was absolutely thrilled to star alongside "the inimitable Minnie Driver and work with the incredible stunt team over a gruelling three-day shoot." (via)
The trailer ends with the Seanchai & Jaskier scene, and the bard can be seen all covered in blood suggesting something terrible has just happened but he managed to stay alive after all.
