James Gunn Explains Why He Changed Drax For His 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Ever since the premiere of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' way back in 2014, many Marvel fans have wanted to know why Drax (Dave Bautista) was portrayed as an alien, even though in the comics he was originally a human named Arthur Douglas.
The character first appeared in Marvel comics back in 1973, so his origin story was developed a long time ago – which is why James Gunn 's decision to discard his compelling human backstory in favor of an alien one has left many fans angry at the director. But now, Gunn finally addressed the Drax fandom, explaining the reasoning behind this creative choice.
And it is quite convincing. Drax was not the main character of the film, so devoting a significant amount of time to explaining his backstory was utterly unnecessary. And Gunn's desire to portray the motley group of space bandits as diverse as possible is also quite reasonable. After all, there are much more aliens in space than there are humans.
Fans seemed to support Gunn's decision, deciding that this change was for the best.
Others are just poking fun at die-hard Marvel fans.
