James Gunn Confirms What MCU Fans Have Been Saying Since Phase 4 Started

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and now co-chief of DC Studios, recently shared his thoughts on superhero fatigue in the wake of Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn expressed his desire for Marvel to continue making great films, despite the challenges posed by the Endgame's Blip storyline and the departure of franchise favorites Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
He emphasized the importance of character-driven storytelling over flashy spectacle, pointing out that the key to creating engaging movies is to have a grounded emotional core.
Gunn believes that superhero fatigue stems from a lack of compelling stories and not simply from overexposure to superhero content.
Gunn's experience with the Guardians of the Galaxy part of the franchise has taught him the importance of storytelling.
He remarked that the films were easier to make since they took place outside of the principal MCU storyline and were thus free from the constraints of the larger story. However, he stressed that the same storytelling principles still applied.

Gunn has not yet begun casting for the role of Superman, but he is actively prepping material for auditions.
