In his recent interview with Forbes on a completely unrelated matter, James Cameron accidentally (?) revealed his upcoming movie that’s already in the works.

James Cameron and his wife are currently selling their $33M coastal ranch in California where they’ve been living for over two decades. The place holds a lot of happy memories for the family as they raised all three of their kids there, but now, since all of them are grown up, the Camerons are listing their property to move on.

You may be thinking, “What does this information have to do with his new movie?”

We didn’t grasp it, either, but this was the topic James Cameron was discussing with Forbes when he — accidentally or not — revealed that he has more movies in the works than everyone thought he did. Apparently, one of the director’s hit movies is getting at least two sequels… And so far, Cameron’s never mentioned that!

“[Our kids are all] pretty much out on their own now… And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore,” said the director while explaining the reasons why he and his wife decided to list their Californian ranch.

In this sentence, there’s an unexpected implication: Cameron is currently working on the sequel to his cyberpunk action movie Alita: Battle Angel — and he plans for more than one extra film!

2019’s Alita: Battle Angel received quite a cool welcome from the critics, but the audience — especially the sci-fi-oriented parts of it — absolutely loved the movie. As of now, the first Alita has an underwhelming 61% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes which clashes with the whopping 92% rating from the audience.

If you somehow missed Alita when it came out, it’s probably a great opportunity to give this movie a shot and see whose side you’re on — after all, if you fall in love with the film, you can rest assured knowing that James Cameron is already working on the sequels and you won’t have to remain in the dark as the original fans did.
