Jake Gyllenhaal Hated Filming This Brokeback Mountain Steamy Scene When It Turned Violent
Not for the reason you may think of, though.
There is no doubt that Brokeback Mountain was not only the film ahead of its time that later became an undeniable classic for the LGBTQ+ community but also a well-received drama.
Both Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, who portrayed the film's main characters, were praised by critics and audiences alike.
No one can deny the impact that Ang Lee's films have had on the industry. However, not many are familiar with the story of its creation.
Although Gyllenhaal and Ledger hit it off, were both invested in their characters, and had great chemistry from the beginning, there were still some mishaps to come.
"Heath almost broke my nose in a kissing scene. He grabs me and he slams me up against the wall and kisses me. And then I grab him and I slam him up against the wall and I kiss him. And we were doing take after take after take. I got the sh*t beat out of me," Jake Gyllenhaal once shared.
Out of pure passion for the scene, Ledger seemed to be a little too rough on his co-star, nearly leaving him with some serious injuries afterwards.
Though there were no hard feelings between the two actors, Gyllenhaal admits that even actual physical fight scenes between them did not leave him feeling remotely as sore as this intimate one.
Though the experience sounds less than pleasant for the actor, it must have been worth it, as the aforementioned scene turned out to be extremely passionate and believable.
Topping critics' lists of the best films of the year and nominated for many prestigious awards, Brokeback Mountain has ensured that it will forever remain in the history of the industry.
Thanks to the director's creative vision and the actors' dedication to their respective roles, Brokeback Mountain became even more successful than anyone could have imagined.
