It's Official: Yellowstone Ends With Season 5, But a Sequel is On Its Way
The news comes on the heels of Kevin Costner finally parting ways with Taylor Sheridan's team.
After a soap opera-level drama, Yellowstone is officially confirmed to be ending after its fifth season, with the final episodes to arrive in November.
However, the Western universe of Taylor Sheridan is nowhere near its end: a prequel series has already been ordered by Paramount to premiere in December.
First of all: wow, that's ambitious. Apparently, Sheridan and his team only have some six months not only to bring Yellowstone to a somewhat decent end, but also to film an entirely new show.
The details of the said show remain a mystery, even though there were reports that the studio had been negotiating with Matthew McConaughey to star in a new spinoff.
"The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world," said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, cited by Variety.
This statement does not provide much of an insight into the sequel, and we can't even be sure about McConaughey's involvement in the new spinoff.
What seems to be clear, though, is that Kevin Costner is out for good; looks like the Dutton family patriarch will not be directly involved in the Yellowstone universe's future.
Costner's departure was a result of a scheduling conflict that allegedly erupted due to the star's desire to focus on another Western feature titled Horizon.
Despite the abrupt ending, fans largely believe that Yellowstone pulling the plug on season 5 is a good decision.
Recently, there have been a lot of complaints in the fandom regarding the writing quality in Yellowstone, with fans claiming that the show has already run out of anything interesting it had to tell.
The only thing the Yellowstone fandom can do now is strap themselves in for yet another wild ride with the upcoming spinoff. Yee-haw, we guess.
