With House of the Dragon finalizing its first season on October 23, Sunday evening slot on HBO Max has been overtaken by The White Lotus. Instead of a fantasy empire with dragons, we now have holiday vibes and swanky resorts paired up with creepy atmosphere and "bedroom farce", as the creator puts it.
According to some people, The White Lotus might have the "IT factor that has been missing at HBO", even though shows like House of the Dragon and Euphoria seem to be perfectly fine.
Redditor PTfan argued that The White Lotus "feels like VINTAGE HBO", even though everything about the show is anything but, considering its high production costs and not much of an actual story.
"There's not much actual story… but you don't care, because the characters and their awful lives are truly fascinating to watch," the fan continued.
With season 2 premiering on October 30, hopes are that The White Lotus continues with its "made by HBO" vibe. However, some fans beg to differ, arguing that HBO had way better shows.
"Succession is THE HBO show at the moment," Redditor dallyan said.
Many old-school HBO fans agreed with the sentiment, albeit noting that The White Lotus does indeed have its own special charm.
However, a lot of TV lovers clearly did not click with the show because of its bizarre pacing and the lack of action-packed storyline. The White Lotus focuses more on chemistry between characters and demons hidden in everyone's sould rather than develops any kind of a defined plot. This is what makes the show appealing for some and underwhelming for others.
No matter how you feel about The White Lotus, its second season premiered on HBO Max on Sunday, October 30 – and who knows, maybe the Mike White series will fill the void left by House of the Dragon just right.
