Is 'Star Trek 4' Really Happening? Here's What Karl Urban Has To Say
The future of the 'Star Trek' movie franchise is still in the shadows, and no official information about the development of the fourth installment has been forthcoming.
But after Karl Urban revealed some curious details about the fate of the upcoming blockbuster, fans finally have something to look forward to.
After the release of 2009 'Star Trek ', starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Urban and Zoe Saldana, moviegoers finally got to know then-defunct iconic franchise better. After receiving excellent reviews from critics and significant box office numbers, Paramount's response to 'Star Wars ' spawned two other films that were less positively received. After 2016's 'Star Trek Beyond' flopped on all fronts, studio decided to hold off on releasing future films, venturing into television instead.
It's been almost six years since we last saw Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy, and production on the 4th film is still a long way off. However, Urban's recent interview for RadioX points to a positive change in that direction, with the actor speaking at length about Paramount's development process for 'Star Trek 4'.
"I have heard that [Star Trek 4] is happening, but I've been hearing that for the last three years. Listen, all I know is that they're developing it, they're writing a script, and I know 100% that we all wanna come back and do it, so I think it's just a matter of timing and logistics at this point…We would love to come back together and make one of those," Urban said.
Certainly, trekkies are excited about this news, but even the slightest thought that some of the original cast members will not return to reprise their roles puts terror in the hearts of fans.
As of now, 'Star Trek 4' is slated to release on December 22, 2023.
