Is Netflix's 'Purple Hearts' Worth Watching?
Just another love story – or another Netflix's mega-hit?
Netflix 's movie 'Purple Hearts' is telling a story of a struggling songwriter and a troubled Marine who decide to marry for military benefits – and a lot of social media users have found themselves heavily invested in it after the film's release last week.
Songwriter Cassie and soldier Luke quickly notice how the line between them gets blurred as a tragedy brings them closer together. The movie is an adaptation of a novel of the same name written by Tess Wakefield. Just like the book lured fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jojo Moyes fans, the movie appears to appeal to those who could not help but cry when watching 'The Fault in Our Stars'.
Still, the dramatic love story seems to not be the only key to success for 'Purple Hearts'. Fans seem to be especially fond of the chemistry between the two leads – Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine. Besides, the movie seems to masterfully implement the classic romance tropes without trivializing them, according to those who have already watched the film.

Many people praised Sofia Carson for not only starring in the movie but also being its executive producer, noting that both jobs have been done beautifully.
However, there were some things that left people uneasy about the movie. Some fans noted that the film seems to be "promoting conservative values" as well as celebrating the military too much – in addition to certain moments that may leave someone uncomfortable.

Other social media users argue that the movie's controversial lines are easily explained by its context, however.
So, it would seem that if you are a fan of the good old "enemies-to-lovers" romance stories, you might enjoy Netflix' adaptation of 'Purple Hearts' just as much as a lot of Twitter users already did. As of August 1, the movie enjoys 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
'Purple Hearts' has been streaming on Netflix since July 29.
