Is Daenerys' Drogon Bigger Than House of the Dragon's Vhagar?
Size is not the most important thing about dragons, but keeping track of how dragons are different from each other can be hard sometimes.
House of the Dragon has a lot more dragons than Game of Thrones had, as it takes us back to the times when the Targaryens had many dragons to control... and it ended bad for them.
With the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel introducing us to ten fire-breathers, people immediately started comparing them to each other, as well as to the dragons that GoT's Daenerys Targaryen had.
In particular, fans keep wondering whether Daenerys' Drogon was bigger than Vhagar — one of the most fearsome winged beasts in House of the Dragon. However, for Drogon to beat Vhagar in terms of size would be almost impossible, because Vhagar was the biggest living dragon in Westeros at the times of HoTD.
Drogon, who is a young dragon, is, on the contrary, one of the smallest dragons in the universe of Game of Thrones. In terms of the size, he is somewhat in between the size of Meleys and Syrax. Both of these dragons are smaller than Daemon Targaryen's Caraxes, and naturally, they are lagging behind Aemond Targaryen's Vhagar, who is the size of several blue whales if you need a comparison to something from the real life.

However, the size is not always the most important thing. Smaller dragons may be way more manoeuvrable in a fight, even though large fire-breathers like Vhagar pose a big danger to whoever dares to challenge them. Still, it's a tough task to control such a dragon — something that is clearly illustrated in the House of the Dragon finale, when Aemond failed to prevent Vhagar from tearing apart Lucerys and Arrax.
Drogon, in turn, remains an iconic and important part of the Game of Thrones universe. When the House of the Dragons showrunners were designing dragons, they certainly used his image as a golden standard, but still, the prequel offers us a wide variety of the winged beasts. Every single one of them has their own personality, color, and signature features.

It's not about the size, but about the skill and the bonding between the rider and their dragon. The next season of House of the Dragon is going to introduce even more dragons and their riders, with showrunners teasing over a dozen fire-breathers.
Season 2 is expected to start filming in early 2023, and the premiere date will be announced later.
