I’m Excited About Young Sheldon Spinoff, but It Has to Resolve This Major Issue First
Someone has to make it right after The Big Bang Theory failed to do so.
Young Sheldon may have reached its definite point of no return (literally), but the story is yet far from being over and is still likely to follow the same successful formula in the upcoming spinoff as well.
Nobody has confirmed anything like this yet, but I wouldn’t be lying if I said that most of the fans consider Jerry O'Connell aka older Georgie in The Big Bang Theory the greatest possible addition to the future show, especially if the actor eventually follows Jim Parsons’s suit narrating the whole story.
Things do look quite promising in this case, but one big problem with another character still has me worried, since it may turn out to be yet another plot hole.
Those who are pretty familiar with the way The Big Bang Theory introduced Sheldon’s family members are aware of Georgie’s chaotic personal life details. Some of them were confirmed by Sheldon, who clearly stated that his older brother eventually ended up married several times (and to several women).
Considering that, The Big Bang Theory’s creators opted for not featuring Georgie’s first wife Mandy in the original show, as if it was pretty clear that it’d been years since the couple broke up.
However, Young Sheldon’s upcoming spinoff titled Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has already given a major hint at Mandy’s importance in Georgie’s life at least during his younger years, thus stating that keeping her older version out of sight would be more than unfair.
I still don’t have a single clue about how Georgie’s hectic life story will be recounted in the future series, but there’s no doubt that Jerry O'Connell’s return as a narrator would be the greatest decision the creators could ever come up with.
Though even choosing the same path as Young Sheldon, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage still needs to bring older Mandy to the screen alongside O'Connell’s Georgie, giving her an opportunity to share her own version of the story, since Georgie’s potential memoir might contain some unreliable facts (just like his younger brother’s memoir once did).
Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will arrive on CBS later this year.
