Fans still don't understand why James and Lily Potter were portrayed by middle-aged actors in the movies.

Harry Potter 's parents, James and Lily, met their untimely deaths shortly after graduating from Hogwarts. According to canon, they were both 21 years old when Voldemort stormed into Godric's Hollow and murdered them.

However, for some reason, the movies portrayed James and Lily as a couple in their forties, as well as Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, who look much older than they would if the movies were more book-accurate when it comes to the actors' ages.

Canonically, Remus and Sirius should have been in their thirties in the movies, as should Severus Snape. But the films ultimately went with older actors, casting David Thewlis (who was 41 in Prisoner of Azkaban) as Lupin and Gary Oldman ( then 46) as Sirius.

When Alan Rickman first portrayed Severus Snape in Sorcerer's Stone, he was 55.

Finally, Adrian Rawlins (James Potter) was 43 when he portrayed Harry's father in the first film, and Geraldine Somerville (Lily Potter) was 34 at the time.

It's not that the actors didn't do a great job in the end; on the contrary, the majority of fans love the way each and every one of the Marauders (and their inner circle) was portrayed on screen. But such a huge age difference is not canon at all.

One Marauder, however, was cast just right, according to fans.

"Might be a bit of a stretch, but I'm gonna say its possible spending 13 years in Azkaban would probably age you a good bit, so I think Sirius should get a pass," Redditor Ductapefordaysss noted.

If Warner Bros. ever decides to reboot the Harry Potter series (as rumored), the studio might want to try and cast canonical actors. At this point, however, the fandom feels that it's better to leave things as they are, since it's too early for a Harry Potter reboot.
