Be careful what you wish for.

If there's one thing fans of every TV show ever created can agree on, it's that there's always at least one character that's so annoying it drives you crazy. Whether it's the fault of the writers who didn't care enough about the characters to make them somewhat enjoyable or the fault of poor casting choices, these characters usually make watching a show a little less enjoyable.

However, sometimes the character is intended to be annoying, and that doesn't necessarily make them bad. What some viewers don't seem to understand very well is that no story can consist of flawlessly good people. In order for the plot and the relationships to develop, people have to act irrationally and make mistakes.

Young Sheldon is no exception. Of course, not much of the plot is driven by Sheldon's particular worldview or Mary's devotion to the church, but that is a source of comedy.

As the show progresses, the audience seems to need more reminders that without these major flaws, the characters would be two-dimensional and uninteresting to watch. If Missy hadn't become more urgent and annoyed with her parents for coddling Sheldon, she would have been considered boring by the fandom.

If Mary hadn't been so devoted to the church and so strict with her rules, her sacrifice for Sheldon wouldn't carry as much weight, and her personal tragedy of not having a support system wouldn't be as meaningful. Without George's very mild but still present drinking problems and his slight neglect of his children, her mistakes would have no meaning.

And without Sheldon, his annoying comments, his attitude toward others, and his endless spoiling by Mary, there wouldn't be The Big Bang Theory. The Sheldon Cooper we know and love from the original show is the exact product of his upbringing.

The only thing fans can do is appreciate the efforts of the team behind the prequel, showing how chaotic yet fun the Coopers were in real life. If you are interested in what the show has in store for its characters next, be sure to keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates on season 7.
