Iconic Scenes That Almost Saved Their Otherwise Lame Movies
Even less than stellar films can provide some unforgettable scenes from time to time.
Sometimes movies that would otherwise be completely forgettable suddenly introduce a great scene out of nowhere that makes fans wish that the rest of the movie was just as great.
Here are five examples of scenes that almost saved otherwise underwhelming movies.
Quicksilver to the rescue (X-Men: Apocalypse)
A big step down from the great Days of Future Past, Apocalypse failed to deliver on so many levels.
At least viewers got this memorable sequence where Quicksilver rescues Xavier's students in slow motion to a killer soundtrack of Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.
Japanese Attack (Pearl Harbor)
The scene everyone was waiting for, it was as visually spectacular as expected in typical Michael Bay fashion, even if it had its own share of historical inaccuracies.
Too bad viewers were forced to sit through the majority of the movie's badly written, badly acted and badly directed melodrama.
Loki Learning of Frigga's Death (Thor: The Dark World)
An overall mediocre Marvel flick, but this single scene had more drama and great acting than the rest of the movie.
When the guard tells Loki about his adoptive mother's death and he casually dismisses him with a nod, Loki holds his composure for a while after the guard leaves and then smashes his cell.
This is only reinforced later when Thor visits him and Loki drops his illusion so the audience can see how devastated he really is.
Duel of Fates (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace)
When the first part of the prequel trilogy finally hit the big screen, fans and critics alike tore it apart for a variety of reasons.
However, the one scene that was unanimously praised was the fight between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul.
The stunning choreography and John Williams' breathtaking soundtrack set the bar for lightsaber duels for years to come.
The Destruction of Metropolis (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice)
The opening scene of Zack Snyder's controversial superhero film was perfect, as seeing the fight between Superman and General Zod from a civilian perspective completely changed the tone of the scene.
Unfortunately, the rest of the movie was not as great, and only improved slightly with the release of the director's cut.
