Iconic Action Duo Returns in Rush Hour 4 (And Maybe It Will Fix Threequel's Mistakes)
Jackie Chan's co-star has confirmed his involvement in the project.
In December 2022, Jackie Chan officially revealed that the fourth installment of the buddy action comedy franchise Rush Hour is in the early stages of development.
The series began in 1998 with the release of the first film, which was warmly received by critics and eventually created its own loyal fan base.
The story revolved around Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and Detective James Carter, portrayed by Chris Tucker, as they rescue the kidnapped daughter of a Chinese diplomat, getting into all sorts of comedic situations due to the radical differences in their characters.
Curiously, the movie's release directly influenced the creation of Rotten Tomatoes, the popular review aggregation website that is still alive and well today.
The franchise was later expanded with two new installments.
However, when Rush Hour 2 also received moderately positive reviews, the third film was decimated by negative reactions from fans and critics alike due to its poor quality. This seemed to put an end to any future sequels, until now.
Chris Tucker recently confirmed his involvement in the project.
"You're going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it's going to be on a whole other level. That's what I like… I'm excited about that. It's not going to be what you've normally seen…
'Rush Hour 4,' that's something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie, but I've got some new stuff that I think you're really gonna like. I'm excited about it," said the actor while speaking on the V-103 Morning Show.
Fans are excited to see the iconic duo back in action, while expressing fascination with how Jackie Chan manages to continue his career in action-packed movies despite being in his late 60s.
They recall the actors' iconic dialog lines from the films and express their wishes for the film to be of the right quality.
"I'm all for one more as long as they get a decent script. I thought 2 was almost as good as the original, but 3 was absolute trash. I don't mind sequels as long as they are actually good and don't simply ride on the success of their previous movies," Reddit user ElCapitan006 said.
A release date for Rush Hour 4 has not yet been announced.
