For Thandie Newton, the dream of playing together with Tom Cruise quickly turned into a living nightmare when filming intimate scenes with him in Mission: Impossible.

Many people on this planet would've done anything to get a chance to star with Tom Cruise in a franchise as big as Mission: Impossible.

It sounds like a dream come true: the money, the fame, the opportunity to get to know the legend of the industry that Cruise undoubtedly is… But in reality, it's not as great of an experience as you may think.

Thandie Newton went through it herself. She was in love with Tom Cruise for many years and admired him; no wonder that she accepted the offer to co-star with him right away.

But what seemed like a dream turned out to be her worst nightmare — and this is the exact word Newton describes her experience on set with.

In general, the actress claims, working with Cruise was utterly stressful. Thandie describes him as overly dominant and demanding, putting a lot of pressure both on himself and all the others.

"I was so scared of Tom," admits Newton, "It just pushed me further into a place of terror and insecurity".

Since the characters of Cruise and Newton were in love with each other, they obviously had to go through kissing and intimate scenes, and this also stressed the actress out.

When shooting one such scene, Tom and Thandie spent an entire day in bed, and she was terrified.

Newton swears that as soon as he got into bed she thought he was actually aroused, and that made her lose all composure.

"Hysteria seemed a perfectly logical response," says the actress after admitting that it was her first-ever love scene of this sort.

Finally, the dream of kissing the star also failed to live up to the expectations.

Thandie remembers and describes it as "slightly icky and sort of wet", which is far from ideal when you finally get to kiss the person you've been enamored with since your teenage years.

Shooting Mission: Impossible was way too much for Thandie Newton.

Considering how many times she says "stressful" and "terrifying" when recalling those days, it's no wonder she never reappeared in the franchise after that one movie.
