'I Have a Talent': Tarantino Reveals His Favorite Tense Moment From His Own Movie

Quentin Tarantino is known as a master of many things that come together to create a unique feeling in the movies he makes.

These are, of course, grotesque violence, captivating dialogue and chilling suspense scenes.

There are plenty of examples of the latter, from Jules and Vincent coming to retrieve a briefcase in Pulp Fiction, to Cliff Booth visiting the Manson family ranch in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, to almost the entirety of The Hateful Eight.

But the director has a surprising preference of his own, as he revealed in a recent interview.

Speaking with El País, Tarantino was asked to name his favorite tense scene from his own films, and he said it was the opening of Inglourious Basterds.

And it is indeed an impressive sequence.

As Colonel Hans Landa, brilliantly portrayed by Christoph Waltz, enters the home of a French farmer, he speaks in a deliberately friendly and sympathetic (as far as a Nazi can be) manner.

But despite his best efforts, the audience can almost sense the danger and that something is fundamentally wrong with the whole sinister situation.

The tone of the conversation changes in an instant when he reveals that he knows of Jewish refugees hiding on a farm, which leads to the killing of all but the young Shosanna Dreyfus.

This whole scene perfectly established the character of Hans and instantly hooked the audience for the rest of the movie. Certainly a perfect choice.

When the interviewer asked Quentin about his secret to creating such powerful scenes, the director replied "I don't know how to explain it. I have a talent for it."

Tarantino's tenth and presumably final film was announced last month and is currently titled The Movie Critic, although it will be given an official name later.

It will be set in the 1970s and is rumored to be based on the career of Pauline Kael.

A release date for the movie has not yet been announced.
