Yes, Barty Crouch Jr. was peeking at students’ underwear; and yes, Albus Dumbledore could be responsible for that in more ways than just hiring him.

Summary:

  • Alastor Moody’s magical Eye could famously see through solid objects and even Harry’s Invisibility Cloak.
  • Barty Crouch Jr. aka Fake Moody used the Eye to peek under underage students’ clothes.
  • One theory claims Dumbledore created Moody’s Eye with the Elder Wand since it could defeat another Hallow’s magic.

It’s quite ironic that one of the best Defense Against Dark Arts professors during Harry Potter ’s years was a Death Eater. Despite his peculiar teaching methods, Barty Crouch Jr. — also known as Fake Moody — was well-respected by his students and knew how to make education both effective and genuinely scary.

But apart from being a great teacher, Fake Moody was also a phenomenal pervert who should’ve gone to Azkaban just for that. And Headmaster Dumbledore could’ve helped him indulge in his disgusting urges.

What Was Crouch Jr.’s Worst Perversion?

Alastor Moody was one of the most renowned Aurors with an insane track record. Having lived through the darkest years of the Wizarding War, Moody had an entire arsenal of magical things that helped him hunt down and fight Dark wizards. Various artifacts and instruments in his possession turned the Auror into a one-man army.

Moody’s most well-known magical item, however, was his famous Eye that allowed his vision to pass through solid objects. While undeniably useful for discovering ambushes and hidden secrets, the Eye admittedly held too much power. You see, clothes are also solid — and after embracing Moody’s identity, Barty Crouch Jr. used this power to sneak-peek under underage students’ robes and dresses!

'Nice socks, Potter,' Moody growled as he passed, his magical eye staring through Harry's robes.

Remember this scene from The Goblet of Fire’s Yule Ball? In one short phrase, it proves that Crouch Jr. deliberately scanned what was under students’ clothes. It’s hard to believe that a deranged Death Eater only used the Eye to search for funny socks. Most likely, he simply enjoyed watching children and teenagers. Gross.

As we learned from the Harry Potter books, Moody Eye was also capable of seeing through invisibility cloaks. Not just the usual ones, either: it saw through Harry’s ultimate Invisibility Cloak, one of the Deathly Hallows that lacked the vulnerabilities of typical cloaks! This is supposed to be impossible, right? And yet, it happened.

Seeing (ha!) how the Eye could defeat the ancient magic of a Deathly Hallow, one fan theory claims that Moody’s most famous artifact had a share of another Hallow’s power. Albus Dumbledore famously held the Elder Wand — and he was Moody’s close associate during the First Wizarding World with Voldemort. Do you see it yet?

It’s more than likely that after Alastor Moody lost his eye on one of the missions, Dumbledore created the artificial one for him. If he used the Elder Wand to create the artifact, it would explain why the Eye was so powerful that it could see through not just any solid objects but another Hallow, the Invisibility Cloak, as well.

So in some way, according to this theory, it was thanks to Albus Dumbledore that many years later, Barty Crouch Jr. could satisfy his perversions by looking under Hogwarts students’ clothes whenever he pleased. After all, if it weren’t for the Headmaster, the Eye would not have existed — or would have been way weaker.
