It was a tight tie between him and Damon.

Summary:

  • The Vampire Diaries was The CW TV show based on the supernatural young adult book series by L. J. Smith.
  • The show was a huge success and created a few spinoffs, like The Originals and Legacies.
  • Some fan-favorite characters, however, didn’t live up to fans’ expectations.

There is something very nice and nostalgic and sad at the same time about rewatching the shows you were obsessed with as a teenager and seeing how little sense they make from an adult's point of view. You have to be careful not to be too skeptical and just enjoy the experience, but sometimes it gets way too hard.

Especially when you see the greatest injustices being done to your favorite characters. Such was the case with The Vampire Diaries' Klaus Mikaelson. Introduced in season 2 of the original series, Klaus made quite an impression on many viewers.

His arc of trying to break the curse and get to his werewolf side quickly became one of the most interesting on the show. However, it ended with a very anticlimactic finale, to say the least. Viewers were left to believe in all the power that the hybrid of a vampire and a werewolf can have... without ever getting a chance to see it in all its glory.

The entirety of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals passed without a single scene of Klaus in his wolf form. And as unfortunate as it is to admit, Joseph Morgan's acting wasn't enough to convince viewers of Klaus' true power.

Why Don’t We See Klaus’ Werewolf Form

This was undoubtedly one of the most important questions for the audience upon The Originals finale. While many viewers expected to see the transformation earlier, some still held some hope that this was the moment worthy of the final episode.

But the answer the fans got didn't live up to anyone's expectations. If anything, it made them even more sad about the things that were planned but never happened.

As The Originals creator Julie Plec explained in an Entertainment Weekly interview, reflecting on the series finale and the way the team wanted to wrap up the story, she wanted to show Klaus' transformation. There just weren't enough resources to do it:

"For many years we didn't get there for financial reasons, and then it was just story reasons, and then back to financial reasons. And then the show was over. The first draft of the penultimate episode had Klaus turning <...> but again, you end up in time crisis, financial crisis, and things just fall away. You think it's okay at the time, and then you regret it later," she said.

There are many things the fandom disagrees with Julie Plec on, but the feeling of regret is definitely mutual.

While some The Vampire Diaries fans still feel that they were robbed of a very important scene, and the whole arc of Klaus trying to get to his wolf side seems boring without actually seeing that form, others have managed to let it go. If they were able to include a scene with Klaus in his wolf form, they would not wait until the very last episodes anyway.

Whether you agree that not seeing Klaus turn made him a little less scary and a little more lame than he should have been, or whether you feel that it didn't take anything away from the experience, is up to you.

And if you feel like you need to refresh your memory on Klaus' character arc, you can stream The Vampire Diaries and The Originals on Netflix and Directv.
