How I Met Your Father Finally Makes Up For All The Barney Injustice in Original Show

One of the most beloved characters of How I Met Your Mother fans was Barney. A rebel, ladies' man, and playboy, he had a childlike attachment to Ted.

Despite an expensive suit and a good job, Barney was still a teenager obsessed with girls and laser tag.

He matured throughout the series, and his communication problems turned out to be the result of a difficult childhood and first relationship.

In the series finale, we get to the point where Robin stays with Ted what seems like a desperate move, and Barney, despite becoming a father, is back to calling women by their numbers and not being able to form relationships, which hardly makes him a great father to a little girl.

Few people liked this ending, but the creators of the sequel How I Met Your Father seem to have fixed everything that was wrong with Barney in the original series finale.

While Barney's full story didn't make the final cut and viewers only got a glimpse of his life, the show's creators shared more of his fate behind the scenes.

"There was a little bit more that we shot that we took out of the [final] cut, but our thinking was that Barney is a little bit more of a family man now… maybe he's living the suburban dad life," Isaac Aptaker said in his interview with TVLine.

According to the show's creators, Barney is now a family man who takes great care of his daughter, Ellie, the result of one of Barney's affairs. He arranges Sunday dinners and drives a "dad's car" (a cool one, though).

The birth of a daughter at the end of the original sitcom only offered hope for a change in Barney's behavior, while the sequel showed fans that Ellie was indeed the only female who could change Barney for the better.

Though the finale of How I Met Your Mother turned out to be fuzzy and not quite what the viewers wanted, fans are now grateful to the creators that at least How I Met Your Father gave Barney the decent character development.
