House of the Dragon S2 Yet to Premiere, But Alicent Already Told At Least 1 Lie

Although fans of House of the Dragon began to divide into two groups, supporting either Team Black or Team Green, the production team decided from the very beginning of the show, with the promotion for season 2, to level the fandom wars to match the events on screen.

With separate promotional posters and trailers for each of the two teams, House of the Dragon asked its fans to choose their side. And as it seems, each of the released trailers already pushes a narrative that reflects the show's events for fans to support.

House of the Dragon: Green Trailer Lies

One of the things that makes Team Black most angry at Team Green is the way their unofficial leader, Alicent Hightower, plays the victim card when her counterpart on the other team was a victim of the very same misogynistic society.

Alicent was a victim of her father's political intrigues and King Viserys' lust, but instead of trying to fight the world order that hurt her so much, she clings to power through her son Aegon, who usurped the Iron Throne at the end of season one. And even that, according to the trailer, Alicent holds against him.

Speaking to the young king, Alicent mentions the sacrifices that were made for him to be crowned, but in reality, all the sacrifices were crimes against someone else. From the murder of Ser Harwin Strong and his father to the imprisonment of Princess Rhaenys, the only sacrifice Alicent made to see her son on the throne was giving up her morals.

Considering the boy had little interest in ruling the realm, even he had to give up more before he could ascend. So the sheer manipulation in whatever Alicent is trying to put in his head is obvious even in the few minutes of the trailer.

Even among the fans of Team Green, Alicent's line didn't go down well. If there is no further explanation in the show, or if no secrets about the Council are revealed, then it's nothing but pretentious words to mess with Aegon's head:

“Her personal happiness, I assume. That's it.<...> The line is out of place no matter the context, if you ask me. Especially if she talks about the Green faction as a whole,” Redditor Greenlit_Hightower said.
