Finally, a proper character arc!

Summary:

  • House of the Dragon season 2 has dropped two trailers at once, showing the perspective of both sides of the Dance of the Dragons
  • The green trailer, which showcases the House Hightower perspective, already seems to particularly please Aegon fans
  • In season 1, Tom Glynn-Carney's character didn't receive a lot of screen time, which most likely won't be the case in season 2

If you thought House of the Dragon's fandom was wild during season 1, wait until the second chapter arrives in June 2024, because the series has released two trailers at once, one for each rivaling team — and Internet is up in arms already.

It seems that the Green team already has something to celebrate, judging from the trailer. No matter whose side you're on, the fans' first emotions after both clips can be summed up in the words "Let's go!!!" or "Oh my God!!!". Yes, with three exclamation marks.

For the Greens, though, their trailer appears to prove that Aegon Targaryen, the son of Alicent Hightower and late King Viserys, will finally get the screen time he deserves and truly shine in season 2 — the chance he never really got in the first chapter of the story.

Even in the trailer, Aegon is stealing the show. His sassy demeanor in the throne room can be felt even in the trailer for the Blacks, let alone the Green clip, where the young king literally salutes "to war, then."

It's not that lost kid who ran away from the coronation we saw in season 1; Aegon seems to be very keen to fight Rhaenyra until the end, not shying away from blood and violence.

"I like that the trailer seems to indicate that show takes him seriously. He is not gonna have 5 minutes of screentime like in season 1," noted Redditor Bierre_Pourdieu.

Other fans note that it makes perfect sense — after all, the story is finally, officially all about him and his rivalry with King Viserys' initial (illegitimate, according to the Greens) heiress.

"I think it worked well. Most of the season you see a spoiled kid with no ambition beyond existing. Then all of a sudden he has all the power and it changes him. It's a shift of momentum both for the viewer and the character," Redditor hartforbj said.

Judging by the trailers, chances are high that Aemond, albeit a season 1 fan favorite, will have to step aside and let his older brother shine in the second chapter of the Dance of the Dragons story.

However, Aemond clearly teases his own fight as well: in the trailer, he smiles and confirms that he is very much ready to challenge his uncle, Daemon Targaryen, if the latter dares to accept the challenge. This stand-off will be a whole different story...

When Will House of the Dragon Season 2 Be Released?

The two trailers also revealed the release date for House of the Dragon season 2, confirming that it will arrive to Max on June 16.

The premiere date makes the wait fall short of about two years, since the first season was released in August 2022.
