House of the Dragon E6 Confirms Rhaenyra & Alicent Fan Theory, but in Its Own Way
Everyone finally got what they wanted. Sort of.
House of the Dragon ’s season 2 has just confirmed a major fan theory that has been around for quite some time, but in a pretty much unexpected manner.
Ahead of the second installment’s premiere back in June, fans were desperate to see how things would go between Rhaenyra and Alicent amid all the tension, suggesting that the attachment they both still held for each other would eventually prevail and would even force the characters to confess their genuine love for one another.
To everyone’s surprise, the highly anticipated plot twist did make it into the show, yet it still concerns only one of the characters in question.
House of the Dragon’s season 2 episode 6 titled Smallfolk sees Rhaenyra sharing a passionate kiss with her new close advisor Mysaria after both open up to each other about being tired of trying to live up to men’s expectations.
While Rhaenyra’s depressing thoughts about her reign being seen as Daemon’s merit are already a common knowledge, Mysaria’s horrifying story is heard for the first time, with her mentioning that she was sexually assaulted by her own father and even got pregnant by him, which later on resulted in Mysaria’s inability to have children.
Both Rhaenyra and Mysaria making it clear that there’s surely something else than just a simple female friendship and companionship behind their relationships does seem to be a promising start for a new compelling storyline for the entire show that just proved its lead character to be queer.
Will Alicent and Rhaenyra Be Together?
However, many still have their own reasons to believe that Rhaenyra’s preferences were hinted at way earlier in the show, considering how close she once was with Alicent and especially Rhaenyra’s journey to King’s Landing in an attempt to prevent the war she was about to start with her former best friend.
Whoever Rhaenyra eventually shows her genuine romantic feelings for, she’s still a pioneer of the entire Game of Thrones franchise, despite the original show also having several queer characters.
Now proved to be the only non-straight character in House of the Dragon so far, Rhaenyra is the first queer person in there who doesn’t embody all the stereotypes that gay characters usually stick to in modern TV shows.
Quite the contrary, Rhaenyra is a perfect mix of traits that characterize her love life peculiarities. She remains an elegant and a bit vulnerable queen that still falls for her toxic uncle Daemon, while also proving herself to be rebellious and brave enough to express her feelings for a woman.
Rhaenyra and Mysaria’s affair may have its own repercussions in the upcoming war, yet it only confirms another prediction suggesting that their relationship will cause more dramatic twists and turns for Rhaenyra and Daemon once the latter figures everything out.
