Where do I sign a petition for Halaena’s run for the queen?

House of the Dragon season 2 is back with its brand new episode, bringing another intrigue into the Greens camp, and only one side character may be able to confront the show’s biggest schemer without even being let into the whole secret.

The latest episode, Regent, makes it all clear about its title showing Aegon incapable of ruling Westeros anymore and the whole council agreeing to make Aemond Prince Regent.

While Aegon and Aemond’s mother Alicent still takes her time to connect the dots and figure out what really happened to Aegon during the battle, their sister Halaena doesn’t seem to need anyone else to unveil the truth to her, and her one-minute appearance just nailed the entire episode.

After the council chooses Aemond over Alicent as Aegon’s regent, the episode repeatedly proves that this is exactly what Aemond has always wanted.

It’s not even that clear in this very sequence where everyone agrees to proclaim him Prince Regent and Aemond doesn’t keep everyone waiting by quickly taking his brother’s spot at the head of the table.

Another, even more striking scene is yet to follow, with Aemond quietly observing the Iron Throne he’s supposed to be sitting on soon when the moment he has dreamed of for so long is ruined by his sister Halaena showing up out of nowhere and asking him a vague question “Was it worth the price?”

Since Halaena is usually considered an always silent member of the family that never even takes her words seriously, her rare attempts to communicate with her relatives are even more precious, and it has nothing to do with her introverted nature.

Halaena’s words are invariably full of deep meaning that not everyone in the castle is able to grasp, and in this particular scene she clearly confronts Aemond, proving that she knows what he’s done, though she doesn’t admit it openly.

While their mother has enough sources to get the truth out of, she still uses her own logic to realize what really happened, Halaena can’t boast of the same number of connections, but what she does have is her intuition and full understanding of her siblings’ motives.

With the character’s ability to see what her family members are really into even without being that close to them, it’s a real shame to keep Halaena a side character with a couple of lines per episode if she's lucky to have those at all.

However, even without many words, she’s still brave enough to say a lot of things her brother doesn’t want to hear, and that’s what I think makes her a real queen among all those pretenders.
