House of the Dragon Axed One of The Most Important Scenes in the Finale
We all demand justice for Baela Velaryon.
If you are outraged about Baela Velaryon barely having enough screentime in season 1 of House of the Dragon, then chances are you might go mad because of a certain scene that was cut from the season.
According to the HoTD director and co-executive producer Greg Yaitanes, one scene in episode 10, titled The Black Queen, had Baela actually uttering lines — and those lines were pretty important for the story.
"There's a great scene between Baela and Rhaenys: Rhaenys is talking about how war is coming and wanting to protect her granddaughter, then her granddaughter stands up and says, "I'm a dragonrider like my father and my mother, and I'm here to fight this war, and I'm not going to run away from it." I thought the performances were terrific, and I would've loved to have seen that scene in there," he told Vulture.
According to him, "anything else that wasn't in didn't necessarily need to be there". However, it turns out that the Baela scene, despite its significance for the story, ended up being axed anyway — and fans just cannot wrap their minds around it.
Those who read the book appear to be even more irked about the cut.
"Literally this sets up Baela's character AND it foreshadows what she ends up doing towards the end of the Dance. Book readers know that Baela is THAT girl," Twitter user RachieRay90 said.
Yaitanes did not elaborate on the reasons for removing the Baela scene from the episode, but fans have already blasted the showrunners for once again undermining the significance of the characters of color in the series.
There is still hope for the showrunners to pay more attention to Baela in the upcoming season 2, though. The filming is due to begin in early 2023, but the premiere date is yet to be scheduled.
