We’re still not able to think about the show’s favorite couple in the same way after season 2.

House of the Dragon ’s season 2 episode 4 may have broken everyone’s hearts showing Rhaenys' death after a dragon battle with Aemond, but some fans were heartbroken about her ever since the second installment’s premiere episode.

The series kicked it off once again back in June, introducing Lord Corlys Velaryon’s bastards Addam and Alyn and thus suggesting that Seasnake wasn’t loyal to his beloved wife after all.

Episode 5 scenes with Corlys mourning Rhaenys had everyone bewildered about the whole nature of their relationships even more than before — ironically, that was a major shock for the actors too.

Since George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood never implied that Corlys had illegitimate children in the first place, the plot twist unveiling that he actually had two caught the character’s actor Steve Toussaint off guard.

According to the latter, he had pretty much the same reaction as most of the viewers when he first saw the script since everyone, including the series’ cast, was more than reassured that Rhaenys was always the one for her husband.

Toussaint then continued saying that he had no other choice but to dive deeper into his character’s psychology trying to find possible reasons for his infidelity to someone he always claimed his love for.

The actor even turned to his co-star and on-screen wife Eve Best while both were trying to figure the whole issue out.

As Toussaint put it, “Eve and I had long conversations where she would say, “Part of the thing that’s bothering Rhaenys is that this person must have been quite special.” Initially, I was like, “No, no, probably not.” But yeah, I think maybe there was. Maybe we’ll explore that later. I don’t know”.

Some more details about Corlys’ relationships with the mother of his illegitimate sons are likely to remain a mystery, yet it’s still pretty clear that both Addam and Alyn will play a crucial role in the upcoming war between the Blacks and the Greens.

Season 2 episode 6 has already given a sneak peek into how things will turn out when Rhaenyra is informed about Seasmoke flying around with an unknown rider on his back.

Should the show follow George R.R. Martin’s narrative, not so much time will pass before Addam is reintroduced as Seasmoke’s new dragonrider.
