Every action should have at least some consequences.

Just like Game of Thrones, the House of the Dragon fandom has split into two camps.

While some fans hadn't read George R.R. Martin's original book and had nothing to compare the show to, others had, and they had a lot more questions about how the show portrayed the events of the first season on screen.

Some changes were more understandable than others, especially considering that Targaryen customs include incestuous marriages with huge age differences.

It's hard to believe that the way everything was portrayed in the show was already a whitewashed version of events with a few tweaks to the characters' ages. However, not every difference was welcomed by the fans.

Many people seemed to dislike the change in Alicent Hightower's character. Besides being aged down, she seemed to be much less powerful and much more victimized in the show than she was in the book.

Although both Alicent and Rhaenyra still end up on different sides of the war at the end of season 1, the show's Alicent's motives are not clear at all, and she doesn't seem like a powerful political figure.

By taking responsibility for usurping the Iron Throne from her and giving it to the Council, the writers make her look not only more innocent but also more powerless. And that is certainly not a good look for the leader of Team Green.

Alicent may not be the only character to fall victim to senseless whitewashing. Fans fear the same will happen to Daemon and Rhaenyra and their plan to avenge Lucerys' death.

While it's hard to deny all the horrible things Daemon has done, it would be upsetting to see a well-thought-out plan become an accident in the writers' quest to make characters more likable than they should be.

Whatever route the writers will take, we will have to wait and see. According to sources on set, the Blood & Cheese events are already being filmed, so now it's a waiting game until the season 2 premiere.
