HotD Got Almost Every Martin's Character Right, but This One is Pure Disaster
The Game of Thrones prequel has changed a lot from George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood, but one character could not have been treated any worse, according to the fandom.
It's always hard to adapt a book into a TV show, but sometimes characters are changed so much that they're not even comparable to their book counterparts.
This is exactly what happened to Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon, according to fans who are still not over the way the show turned him into Alicent's minion who still holds a grudge against Rhaenyra for once rejecting him.
"In the books he's the best fighter of his era and a strong political force. He's the one who convinces Aegon to take the throne by saying Rhaenerya will kill him his children and his brothers. In the show he's just a simp and a brute," Redditor TylerA998 said.
Fans have long suspected the show of being biased against the Greens, trying to portray them as antagonists without explicitly taking sides. Many people believe this is why we have an "angry incel" instead of a "calculating kingmaker" on the show.
According to fans, Cole is by far the "worst adaptation" in the show, losing his devious and cunning side, and even being made to be rejected by Rhaenyra; even though it was he who rejected her in the books.
The book version of Cole seems to be much more complex and charismatic than what the show has tried to give the fans. After season 1, Ser Criston Cole is one of the most hated characters, and definitely not the menacing "kingmaker" he was in the books.
House of the Dragon Season 2 will begin filming in March, with the premiere date to be determined by HBO later.
