Why did Steven Ogg’s Simon outshine Negan for some fans?

The Saviors are one of the many groups the protagonists of The Walking Dead had to face along the way. It’s generally believed that Negan is not only the most charismatic member of the Saviors (being their leader), but also one of the most charismatic characters on the show altogether.

While there are reasons to believe so, some fans are convinced there’s another Savior who is even more charming — Simon.

Simon, portrayed by the talented Steven Ogg, has always been somewhat of an enigma. Fans on Reddit have been discussing how his wildcard nature and mysterious background make him even more intriguing than Negan.

There’s this sense of unpredictability with Simon; you never really know what he’s going to do next, and that kept fans fascinated about him.

Many are curious about Simon’s life before the apocalypse. What was he like and how did he end up becoming a Savior? Maybe these unanswered questions also add certain intrigue to his character.

We can’t deny that Steven Ogg, who is mostly recognized for his performance as Trevor in GTA V, also played a huge role in Simon’s charismatic personality.

Another aspect that sets Simon apart is his distinctive way of speaking. Fans have pointed out his use of business manager lingo in a post-apocalyptic world. Maybe it’s a hint at what Simon did before the outbreak.

Simon isn’t the only character with a unique speaking style in The Walking Dead. Other characters, like Ezekiel with his theatrical verbiage and the Garbage People with their abbreviated language, also contribute to the linguistic diversity of the series.

Some fans have theorized that Simon could have been the original leader of the Saviors before Negan took over. While this remains unconfirmed, it adds an interesting twist to the narrative.

Others have expressed a desire for an episode exploring Simon’s backstory. It could only be possible in Tales of the Walking Dead, the anthology series.

Even though Simon died, fans loved his return in a flashback in this year’s TWD spinoff, Dead City. It was probably the last time we saw him.
